The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s little brothers is the same as the Chewbacca Family Hour in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Give me an Andor-style show in the Old Republic with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as the stunt coordinator for lightsaber battles
Like most kids of the ’80s, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said this was the direction I was desperate for new Star Wars content to take. I mean, after the disappointment of the sequel trilogy, others (all of Disney’s live-action content except for Andor, Rogue One, and the first two seasons of Mando are somewhere between mediocre and bad), I’m just hungry for a good, mature Star Wars epic. – to content.
HOWEVER… to be fair, I will say that Skeleton Crew is fine
It’s not offensive or poorly made; not blatantly cheap like the Book of Boba Fett; not aimless like Mando season 3; not as groundbreaking as the sequels and Kenobi; not tone-deaf like the Acolyte. Hooray? It’s basically Star Wars Goonies, a little story about a bunch of kids going on adventures in the Star Wars universe.
So far, so good
The writing so far (from episode 2 onwards) is decent – the effects, costumes, and locations all look great – there’s a certain charm to it all. I think that, like Andor, this is a passion project for its creators and is seen as a minor side project by the upper echelons, who therefore didn’t bother to get involved, which is a blessing for Lucasfilm these days. 7.5/10.
