In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help him create a companion. They bring a murdered woman to life as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change. In January 2024, while hosting the Governors Awards (the honorary/lifetime achievement awards given by the same Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that presents the Oscars), comedian John Mulaney jokingly told a story about how he was asked to tape an audition for a small part in this film: “Ladies and gentlemen, you’re looking at me and you’re thinking, ‘Oh, great. Another fucking stand-up comedian here to make fun of us in our sacred rituals. ‘Well, I’m not that weird. I’d like to share with you an actual email that I received from my agents about thirty days ago ago. 'Emma Tillinger Koskoff [-Keren] are attached to produce for Warner Brothers. Christian Bale is in negotiations to star opposite Jessie Buckley.' 'There is no script available at this time.'Pending, pending your response to the material sides to get on tape for the role of Young Cop. They actually sent me this. WME [the William Morris entertainment agency] sent it to me. They are not OFFERING me Young Cop. They are giving me the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring.
